Corrupt install or low memory issue
For low memory try a forced reset, It's simple to do and no data is lost, but having a backup is always wise.
At the home screen, hold down the Sleep/Wake button on the top of your device and at the same time hold the home button. Keep holding both buttons, ignoring any power off message, until you see the Apple logo, at which point release both buttons. This method will restart your device, but can take many minutes to get back to the unlock screen.
It can help to do this twice.
