其實我想問你是否打錯了一個字,原句是不是:So disgusted were they by the bad language (that) they walked out.

你這句的前部分使用了「倒裝(Inversion)」,用一般的寫法表示這句的話,就是:They were so disgusted that they walked out. Be the bad language.

這裡的「Be the bad language(是壞的語言)」在文法上是不能跟其他兩部分合成一句,只能獨立成句,但就算這樣,它的意思無論怎解也跟其他部分很合不來。這也是為什麼我問你是不是打錯的原因。

如果原句真的是 So disgusted were they by the bad language (that) they walked out.,就簡單得多了,用一般的寫法就會是:They were so disgusted by the bad language that they walked out.

意思就是:他們對那些不良低俗的語言感到非常反感,所以便離場了。

大學生程度或以下的學生,應該簡單寫為:

So disgusted by the bad language, they walked out.
對髒話很反感,他們走了出來。
