According to the diagram, there are various reasons for the youth drug abuse in Hong Kong. Almost half of the interviewed drug abusers under 21 said they took drugs because of peer influence and the want of identification with their peers. They constitute 49%, which is the largest portion, of all the young interviewees. Then, it is followed by the portion of 43% made up of young interviewees who took drugs for relief of boredom, depression and stress. Following are the 34% and 23% portions composed of those taking drugs out of curiosity and for avoiding discomfort due to absence of drugs respectively. Finally, the smallest portion, around 18%, comprises those young drug abusers who did so to seek euphoria or sensory satisfaction. Therefore, to curb the youth drug abuse problem in Hong Kong, the government might pay more attention to the two largest drug abuse reasons of over 40% of interviewees - peer influence and seek for relief - when devising anti-drug campaigns.
