He's basically saying if you want to change your fate it starts with your attitude. Your attitude can either work in your favor to better your situation or against it by staying the same.

Life is all about perspective... when you change your perspective you're able to look at your life unbiasedly. How does your life compare to a millionaire and a homeless man? What about a buff 17 year old and a 35 year old man with terminal cancer? You can either be upset and mad about things you wish you had, or be thankful for what you do have. Your bro is trying to tell you appreciate what you have, so that way you'll be happier.

Changing your attitude changes what you are attracting into your life.
what you think today shapes tomorrow.
what you give is what you gonna receive.
what you think about attracting similar things into your life, so by changing the perspective to things, the thing itself will reflect it back to you. the world is a reflection to us.
it is your reflection that matters.
remember, your life is what you keep thinking about. what you think about becomes reality, so do be careful of what you think, and your perspective towards different things. if you change your perspective towards things, the things will not change themselves, but changing perspectives attract other different things to you.
