How to be self-aware, mindful, or metacognitive?

I learned from a recent psychology class that toddlers who were more self-aware (the older they get, the more self-aware they get) were not embarrassed when the doll they played with got broken (researchers made it break on purpose). They were not afraid to tell the researchers that the doll was broken. I learned from the class that awareness of other people, from that, arises guilt, embarrassment, shame, and pride. I have felt guilty and embarrassed a lot and I realize that I need to be more self-aware. Plus I know that self-awareness will make me have good self-control, have a good temper, and excel in school. It has helped me in the past, but illnesses and pain made me become more insensitive. I have improved now, but I'm not as self-aware, mindful, or metacognitive as I used to be. Any advice on how to be so?

Guilt and shame usually come from some form of religious indoctrination or inept parenting.

Self-awareness, like most other habits, are behaviors that are "grown" over time. It's a matter of desire, intent and will.

There are best two that can help you with this, you and God. Spending time to speak to him about some thing is to your mind is important. And with a developing relationship with him you are going to come to grasp him and he you. With recognition of God, self cognizance or higher yet, self actualization is a part result. Jesus says "for within the identical approach you decide others, you will be judged" Please don't take this harshly One man wears satisfactory garments and appears down on those that don't gown so great. Another man does not even notice the garments a man or woman wears The fate of the first man is riddled with inhibitions, and can spend his days fascinated about what other humans are pondering, and on no account pondering his possess thoughts. And can simplest leave the apartment so long as he does not fall underneath one in all his possess judgements The destiny of the 2nd man is peace and freedom to end... If cameras had been on us always we would be particularly self mindful of how we look, and would make adjustments to ourself as we saw fit like items or movie stars do. Gods digital camera sees on the inside and is perpetually on. This is intended for encouragement. Could God Bless you with figuring out.

Try monitoring ( as OFTEN as You can ) your Actions AND RE-actions, to Everything You Think, Say, & Do... -And ASK Yourself WHY- You "react" that Way !! We take our Reactions to the World around Us SO Much for Granted, -that it never Occurs to US that MAYbe we Could ( or even SHOULD ) -improve upon WHO we ARE ( if only to make Ourselves- Happier ) ! Because the Reality IS; the better we Know Our-SELVES, the Better we Understand the "workings" of the World around Us... .. . :)

There are only two that can help you with this, you and God. Spending time to talk to him about whatever is on your mind is essential. And with a growing relationship with him you will come to know him and he you. With awareness of God, self awareness or better yet, self actualization is a side effect.

Jesus says "for in the same way you judge others, you will be judged"
Please don't take this harshly

One man wears nice clothes and looks down on those that don't dress so nice.
Another man does not even notice the clothes a person wears

The fate of the first man is riddled with inhibitions, and will spend his days thinking about what other people are thinking, and never thinking his own thoughts. And will only leave the house so long as he doesn't fall under one of his own judgements

The fate of the second man is peace and freedom

To end... If cameras were on us all the time we would be quite self aware of how we look, and would make adjustments to ourself as we saw fit like models or movie stars do.
Gods camera sees on the inside and is always on. this is meant for encouragement.

May God Bless you with understanding

If you want to be more self-aware, listen to what other people said about you. They will give you a source of background understanding of what character you are.
To be mindful, is to be aware of the response given by the other people towards you.
Think in terms of different perspectives before answering a question.
Be mindful of the surroundings and what other people think of you. What they said about you could be very informative. It is your reflection. They give you comments on what you are doing, so to be mindful is to listen to what they are saying and make good judgement out of the options. Think, according to different beliefs/ perspectives of a whole lot of people then make a "summary"/conclusion out of it. Keep in mind that life is fill with uncertainty. To be mindful you must learn to cast aside what you see or thoughts, and reach out with your perceptions. That's the best I could do to be self-aware and mindful. As you continue your adventures through life, you will discover more about yourself and your self-awareness will increase over time as you gain more experience throughout life.
