I've seen it online too many times and still not sure what it means, can someone give some examples of using it and clarify? Thanks.

A troll is someone who says or does things with the intention bating people. One example might be someone who goes into a religious forum and starts making comments about evolution. Or perhaps someone who just spews forth racist crap because they know people will get people angry. They may say something they know is incorrect to to get people to correct them on it. If they can get you in an argument that will just continue bating you until you get mad and give up. It's what they do. I believe the term came from the fishing term "trolling' which is more or less throwing multiple hooks in the water to see if you can get a bite. I think the fact that the term also applies to a foul creature of lore is also appealing.

An individual who attacks a forum with the purpose of causing irrelevant arguments amongst the forum-goers. Different from a flamer in that a troll has no interest whatsoever on the actual thread topic, he/she is simply there to cause friction.

Trolls are difficult to fight off in the traditional way due to the fact that, because they are there with the intent of causing anger, becoming angry at them would only be encouragement. The most effective way of destroying all but the most seasoned of trolls is to simply ignore them.
