Reducing sugar (glucose, maltose, galactose, fructose, lactose): benedict test
Procedures:
1. Add equal amount of sugar solution and benedict solution into a test tube
2. Put the test tube in boiling water bath for 10 minutes.
3. Obeserve any colour change
Expected result:
Blue benedict solution-->brick red precipitate (red solid + red liquid)
Starch: iodine test
Procedures:
1. Add a drop of sugar solution into a spot plate
2. Add a drop of iodine solution
3. Observe any colour change
Expected result:
brown--> blue black
If the sample is solid, crush the sample into small pieces with distill water.
