i think for beginners, piano is actually easier than violin. learning piano will gives you basically all the basic skills you need to know in music, like reading music scores. if your home cannot place a full size stand-up piano, you can choose to have a electric piano that can be disassembled and put away when you are not using it. or you can choose to go to the music stores and book a piano room to practice. i personally prefer having a electric piano at home because i can just assemble it when i want to practice. the assemble is pretty easy too!
i do think violin is a really lovely instrument and it sounds really good. it is not hard to learn, but it could be hard if you don't have any music background. moreover, playing violin only need to read the treble clef. it is easier than piano in a way because you only need to care about one line on violin but both treble and bass line in piano, but only knowing how to read treble clef give you a disadvantage if you are to learn piano or other bass instruments later.
overall saying, i would say that piano is more suitable to learn for a music beginner. but of course, you interest should come first. it would be hard for you to learn anything if you are not interested in it.
