That is how I contracted herpes so YES it's possible. It's not technically genital herpes but oral herpes on your genitals.
Cold sores are caused by the oral herpes virus and they are very contagious while there is a visible sore or blister. If some one with a visible cold sore gives you oral sex there is a very high chance of contracting oral herpes on your genitals.
