Became unemployed, and they all run away?

Okay, I've just become unemployed, and when I try to go meet some new friends (female), they run away when they know that I'm not working, making me look like a bum. This never happened before, but luckily, those whom I have met prior are still friends with me. Why are girls so messed up these days?
