Seen from the airplane 在這是個 participle，用來修飾緊接其後的 the island。

而 seen 是個過去分詞，故 seen from the airplane 是「被動式的 participle」，即有「The island is seen from the airplane」的意思。

其實很多時候你調一調位置就更易明白句子的意思了：The island seen from the airplane looks like a ship.
