Is there a way to survive a hanging?

I'm working on a story for English, and I was wondering if there was a way to survive a hanging without cutting the rope. I was thinking of using the setup in Sherlock Holmes, but I would prefer something more original. Thank you!

The rope kills the person by stopping the oxygen flow through the brain. You could do something cool like the person becoming undead and then awakening and scaring everyone shitless in the story.Like make.it a comedy.Him being like "what?what?wait why am.i talking?" I always.loved a good laugh during story time (: maybe have him look up and jiggle the rope.to.make it tighter.like "cmon man.work you stupid rope" xD and then the others just staring at him and then eachother LOL idk just me maybe

noose can't be tight you give some room for your neck or escape. dont tie the noose tight. spare some holes/space in the noose around your neck.

It's possible. The goal is to have the neck break on impact but yes it's completely possible

Contrary to popular belief, death by hanging is almost never due to strangulation. Death is caused by the downward force of your own body snapping your neck.

So in order to survive a hanging, you would have to prevent the neck from being broken (as well as prevent the strangulation that actually would occur if the neck failed to snap).
