Roughly £1,000 for a small, fairly old car, and about £5,000 for the insurance. You might be lucky, and manage to push that down to about £4,000 - but you admit you are in a bad area, and have rejected the most obvious ways of reducing the premiums.

Five grand. 500 quid for the car four and a half thousand for insurance.

To buy, pick a number.
To insure, anything from £3000 upwards. It won't be less than that.

sorry but your not going to like this answer
a small car such as a mini is cheap to run, but as for getting insurance it will cost someone your age about £2000 - £4000 a year, although it will get a bit cheaper as you get older.
if you offer to fit a dashcam (not a black box) they will give you a much cheaper quote.
try some of the internet sites for a cheap quote such as compare the market (you also get a free soft toy if you use them)

I bought a KA new and nothing but trouble, it failed its first MOT and needed new suspension. The cost of a car depends on what you want to buy, do you want a new one or second hand one and how old will it be? You will pay around £3000 for a good second hand car but will cost about the same to get it insured until you are 25 years old, I bought a new car last year and costing £200 per month fo 5 years and been driving for over 25 year so have full no claims bonus and pay £250 per year for insurance. The cheapest new car you can get is Citroen C1, it wont matter what time of the day you will be driving, Good Luck

Recently I read somewhere that its cheaper to have the son with the insurance and you as second driver, if he doesn't have his own insurance he will never build up a no claims bonus. Nowadays ins companies know all the tricks in the book and I think they would question the fact that you ar acquiring another car and your son is only a second driver of one of them???

Hello,
Taking cue from car buying guides, you will help yourself in choosing the car which exactly matches your specifications, budget and reliability.

1st thing choose a decent reliable car. You are not going to be able to get a fast sporty car to begin with unless you can afford to! Best thing to do would be to get a japanese or german car with good service history/low miles with a small engine. In general the smaller engine cars will be a lot cheaper on the insurance. Just think it will only be for a couple of years and then you can start getting decent cars once your premiums get lower with more experience and ncb. In regards to getting cheap insurance, have a look at the money saving expert website and search cheap car insurance it will give you plenty of tips there. Mainly check on the comparison website such as compare the market and money supermarket, but also check the ones not on those such as LV car insurance (was the cheapest for my partner) direct line, admiral churchill etc. i also heard elephant was quite cheap as well. Also is you can add a family member to your policy that may help just make sure not to do "fronting".

Hope this helps!!

To buy...well the more you pay upfornt in general the less you will have pay in manintenance parts and so on. To insure, 3 to 4k a year.

One of the best would be from the trio of Citroën C1/ Peugeot 107/ Toyota Aygo with insurance group 1-4. They start at £7995 new but a used one can be bought for around £2000. Another good choice would be one of the trio of Seat Mii/ Škoda Citigo/ VW Up! with insurance group1-2. They start at £7630 and used for around £6500 (fairly new). My final recommendation would be the Dacia Sandero with insurance group 2-10 which can be bought for £5995 (just come out).

Hope this helps!
