Shifts given to new employee?

My mum is contracted to work full time hours at a nursing home and for the last couple of months she has only been being 24 hour weeks rather than the 31 she was contracted to because the shifts are being given to a new employee, is there any legislation against this? just to add it is not management doing the rotas but other care staff so favouritism is really in play. Thanks in advance

Her contract is with the management, so they are the people to talk to.

If she is contracted for a minimum of 31, she has to be paid for 31 hours. Either way she needs to see her manager.

If she was contracted to work 31 hours and she's not being given that many, then it sounds like, at the very least, there is breach of contract happening. I'm not sure if there's enough grounds for employment discrimination or the like (especially depending on your state's respective labor laws), but I would definitely bet that there is SOME kind of legal recourse out there for you.

she should see the state employment bureau concerning unfair labor practices
every state is different but there is a federal regulation the states must follow
