Calculate delta H for the reaction.

NO (g) + O (g) → NO2 (g)

given the following information:

NO (g) + O3 (g) → NO2 (g) + O2 (g) delta H = -198.9kJ
O3(g) → (3/2) O2 (g) delta H = -142kJ
O2(g) → 2O (g) delta H = 495.0kJ

ans: -304.1kJ

NO(g) + O3(g) → NO2(g) + O2(g) .. ΔH = -198.9 kJ
(3/2)O2(g) → O­3(g) .. ΔH = -(-142) = +142 kJ
O(g) → (1/2)O2(g) .. ΔH = -(1/2)(495.0) =-247.5 kJ

Add the above 3 thermochemical equations together, and cancel O3(g)and (3/2)O2(g) on the both sides.

NO(g) + O(g) → NO2(g)
ΔH = (-198.9) + (+142) + (-247.5) = -304.4 kJ
