physics - absolute uncertainty

2013-05-08 12:19 pm
The speed of a 1kg object is 2.0m/s +- 0.05 m/s, meaning its absolute uncertainty is 0.5m/s. Calculate the percent uncertainty in its speed and, assuming negligible uncertainty in its mass, determine the percent uncertainty in its kinetic energy. Finally, calculate the absolute uncertainty in the kinetic energy in joules.

✔ 最佳答案
Percentage uncertainty in speed
= (0.05/2) x 100% = 2.5%

Fractional uncertainty in kinetic energy
= 2 x 0.025
= 0.05

Kinetic energy = (1/2).(1).(2^2) J = 2 J
Uncertainty in kinetic energy
= +/- 0.05 x 2 J = +/- 0.1 J
