B + 0.5*70 = 0.65(B+70)0.35B = 10.5
B = 30 oz

Let the no of ounces of pure bran flakes added be x ounces
0.50*70 + x = ( 70 + x) *0.65
35 + x + 45.5 + 0.65x
0.35x = 10.5
x = 30 ounces ANSWER

so
1) x + 70 = y
2) x + 0.5(70) = 0.65y
solve by elimination, substitution, graphing, etc.
(x, y) = (30, 100)
