What does the upside-down cross symbol mean?

Sorry I meant to say it looks something like this but imagine if her fingers weren't curled and she literally had an upside-down cross on her nails, what does that mean? I've this guy in one of my classes with a shirt that had an upside-down cross on it. I heard it means "believe in yourself" though...

Some rock bands equate it with a rejection of Christianity, so it is seen a lot at metal shows, but I think Bad Religion's "cross buster" logo encompasses the meaning more effectively without unintentionally honoring St. Peter: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Bad_Religion#Logo
