Find the orignal numbers of hamsters which Max and Bobby bought respectively.

hamsters.

3x+2y = 24 ......(1)
If Max buys 12 more hamsters now,he will have twice as many hamsters as
Bobby.
3x+12-2y = 2y
3x+12 = 4y
3x-4y = -12 ......(2)
(1)-(2): 6y = 36
y = 6
Put y = 6 into (1):
3x+2(6) = 24
3x+12 = 24
3x = 12
x = 4
Max respectively bought four hamsters. Bobby respectively bought six
hamsters.
