rub somebody up the wrong way

If you rub someone up the wrong way, you cause someone to be angry or offend/annoy someone by the things you say or do, usually when you don’t mean to . ~ (informal English)
惹惱 (冒犯)某人, (通常無意)

Examples:
I meant to be helpful but my suggestion really rubbed her up the wrong way.

He was known as an arrogant player who rubbed his teammates up the wrong way

As soon as they met they started to rub each other up the wrong way.

My little sister rubs me up the wrong way all the time. I find her so annoying!

This saying came from the idea that if you stroke the cats the right way (In the direction the fur lies) it feels good to you and them; stroke them the wrong way (against the direction of the fur) and you'll probably get scratched.
