1.The volume of two similar circular cones are 54 cm(cube) and 128 cm(cube)
respectively,and the height of the lafger cone is 16 cm.
(a)Find the height of the smaller cone.

(b)Find the ratio of the base radius of the smaller cone to that of the larger cone.

(c)Find the ratio of the curved surface area of the larger cone to that of the
smaller cone.

Recall the properties of two similar solids:

1. ratio of volumes = (ratio of corresponding lengths)^3
2. ratio of corresponding areas = (ratio of corresponding lengths)^2

(a) (height of smaller cone : 16)^3 = 54 : 128
height of smaller cone = (3/4)x16=12 cm

(b) ratio of base radius of smaller cone to that of larger cone
=ratio of height of smaller cone to that of larger cone
=12 : 16 = 3 : 4

(c) ratio of curved surface area of larer cone to that of smaller cone
= (ratio of height of larger cone to that of smaller cone)^2
= 16 : 9

1.(a)
(volume of small cone:volume of larger cone)=(length of the small cone:length of thelarger cone)^3

Let height of the small cone be h
(54:128)=(h:16)^3
54:128=h^3:16^3
h=(3/4)*16
h=12cm

1.(b)
(ratio of the base radius of the smaller cone to that of the larger cone)=(ratio of the
height ofsmaller cone to that of the larger cone)

12:16
=3:4

1.(c)
(length of the larger cone:length of the small cone)^2=(area of largersmall cone:area of the small cone)

(4:3)^2
=16:9
