What is fuelwood?
- Fuelwood is wood used as fuels.

Where is fuelwood commonly used?
- Fuelwood is commonly used for cooking and heating in a furnace, stove, or fireplace, or outdoors in a campfire, or bonfire. It can also be used in certain steam engines to generate electricity.

Why is the use of fuelwood in less developed region a threat to people and the environment?
- Fuelwood in less developed regions serves as the main source of energy. This may result in over-cutting of tree resources and lead to deforestation. Buring of fuelwood also causes carbon emission, creating an environment unhealthy for humans.

1 It is wood that is burnt as fuel.

2 It is used in places rich in wood resources, mostly less developed countries. Examples include the Sahel and some tropical rainforests (:D)

3 第三題應該分兩部分回答

先回答environment易d。首先說lithosphere(less infiltration + no protection -> rainsplash, soil erosion, rills, gullies, laterite exposure, silting->flooding) 然後說climate (larger diurnal range of temperature, lower precipitation rates->droughts, no carbon sink -> global warming, desertification etc etc) 千萬不要答 energy flow, nutrient cycle 那些ecosystem的東西, biodiversity, habitat loss 可以簡單帶過。

然後people可以用loss of resources -> economic loss, flooding -> inundate crops, damage life and property, etc. 吹水 :D

Why is the use of fuel wood in less developed region a threat to people and the environment?
It is because of over digging of trees eventually destroyed the forest, as the result, there will be no habitats for plants, wild lives etc. in addition, no windbreaks and soil conservation are provided. Finally, the development of barren land, soil erosion and no vegetation will be resulted. Then, little or no water and crops will be found for drinking or eating by people in the underdeveloped countries. In addition, the weather conditions are unsuitable for human beings as it is too dry and in extremely adversed conditions.
