tax questions, pls help!!!?

I am filing for w2 and 1099, and i have a child, but i claim money from my insurance company in the begining of the year(which i am not sure if i have to pay back, my tax total is about 16k, and plus the $5000 i got from the insurance company, my accountant was telling me anything over 3000 from insurance company will take off all of my refund, is it true? and now she told me i even hv to pay couple hundred dollars to make up the taxes?? what should i do?

I would think that your accountant is right. If you want a second option, you could go to a place like H&R Block or Jackson Hewitt. They will do your taxes for you and tell you what your refund is or what you owe. You only have to pay for the tax prep if they actually file the taxes for you. This way you can shop around and make sure that they all come up with the same figures. If one comes up with better numbers then go with them. Just make sure you pay to extra charge that guarantees that if they did something wrong they will pay the penalties and even sit with you and help should you be audited.

What was the money from the insurance company for? Did you get a 1099 from then, and if so, what numbers are in what boxes?
