when to put out hummingbird feeder in arkansas?

Put it out now. In south Louisiana Humming Birds start showing up mid March. My feeders go out on March 15th. Do make your own sugar water. 4 parts water - 1 part sugar. No need to boil and don't add food coloring. Make only what you need for your feeder or keep any excess in the refrigerator.

BTW - the humming bird food you see in garden centers is a complete rip off. It is colored sugar.

Get a hanging basket of Million Bells (calibrachoa) they love the RED ones.

They arrive here as soon as any of the pink or red native flowers start blooming, and hummers also like yellow flowers though we have very few native flowers here that are yellow. If you have any flowers like that in your area, keep an eye on them to see when they start blooming and when they do the birds won't be far behind.

The usual proportion of water to sugar for hummer food is 4 to 1, but in early spring when it's still cool you can make it 3 to 1 so the birds get a little more nourishment when they most need it.
