f(x) = a(x + 1)(x - 3)when x = 0, f(x) = - 1
- 1 = a(1)(-3) = - 3a, so a = 1/3
f(x) = (1/3)(x + 1)(x - 3) = (1/3)(x^2 - 2x - 3)
= (1/3)[(x - 1)^2 - 1 - 3] = (1/3)[(x - 1)^2 - 4]
= (1/3)(x - 1)^2 - 4/3.
