I am looking for a good small pet to have. I don't like birds or cats. We already have four dogs. I'm looking for small pet that basically can stay in my room that I care for. I am sixteen so I can take care of things very well, the pet would not be for a younger child. We've already tried hamsters but I didn't like them all that much. I am currently babysitting four rats and they are pretty cool. I want something thats small to where it has to be in its cage unless being held. Fish are cool. I just would like some of your opinions. If you list an animal could you please explain why it would be a good one? Thanks!!

semi- aquatic turtles or Hermit crabs both would be as much work and maintenance and money as a 25 gallon saltwater tank. so about 250 for start up and monthly 20 dollars

It really depends on what you're looking for! If you're looking for something small and furry to cuddle with, then I would definitely recommend either a rat or rabbit. They both make FANTASTIC pets! Many people are afraid of rats, but they are so sweet and really bond to you. (they also have the funniest personalities) As far as rabbits go, I highly recommend one too. Many people don't spend enough time with them to keep them nice, so you should always have time and room for your bunny. (If you get a bunny, make sure to research which one you want because they're all different.) Personally, I love flemish giants. They're my favorite!
I would also say that ferrets can be great pets, but you always have to be able to keep up with them. They can smell awful, and wherever they are kept will usually smell like them after awhile. Plus, they have so much energy and can be naughty, so you have to watch after them. If you want something that's smaller and doesn't take up too much room, I would definitely consider a rat. You'd be surprised how awesome they can be! Overall it will come down to your decision! Good luck finding your new friend!! Hope this helps!

guinea pig, any kind of rodent like that chinchillas stuff like that. Some bigger ones ferrets or rabbits. Snakes are cool and so are other reptiles like lizards. Turtles would be cool i guess but they stink.

well if you are babysitting the rats, and you like them.. why not just get a rat for yourself? I had one when I was about your age, and she was a very good pet. She would ride around on my shoulder all day if I let her.

guinea pigs are sociable.. mine would greet me with squeeks when I came home. they are messier than rats tho.

I have a russian tortoise that is pretty cool too. The smallest cage requirement tho is something about the size of a 55gal rubbermaid tote. Larger is better, but this is the minimal size for one. She eats fresh broad leafy stuff.. and in the summer she gets dandelion leaves. Pretty low maintenence once you learn their needs (my 4 year old helps take care of her). They are not typically aggressive. Mine will chill out and sit on my lap like a lap dog sometimes.

Let's see there's, ferrets, turtles, lizards, bunny's, etc. But those would be the ones I'd recommend. They're such great pets to have.
