1099 non employment compensation?

I work as a full-time employee and play golf tournament during weekend to try to make some extra money. I won couple local tournaments last year, and received a 1099 form from the golf tournament sponsor with $1200 non employment compensation. How can I file tax on it? which forms and can I claim expenses again it? The tournament entry fee and my travel expense are much more that the prize I won.

Depends on if it's a business or a hobby. I think it's a hobby. See this article attached.

A prize should show in box 3, not box 7. Call the organization you got the 1099 from and ask for a corrected one.

Your best bet is a Schedule C, and a good tax advisor.
