(a) For any function y = f(x), f(-x) is its reflection about the y - axis, that is it is the mirror image of f(x) about the y - axis. Any point on f(x), say (a,b), will change to (-a,b). So in the graph, (-2,0) will become (2,0), (1,3) will become (-1,3) etc.
(b) f(kx) is a reduction or enlargement of f(x) in the x - direction. (a,b) will change to (a/k, b). Now k = 2, (-2,0) on the graph will change to (-2/2,0), that is (-1,0). (-3,3) will change to (-3/2, 3) etc.
g(x) = f(2x) - 1 is to shift f(2x) downwards by 1 unit. So combining the 2 changes, (-2,0) will change to ( - 2/2, 0), then to (-1, 0 - 1) = (-1,-1) etc.
(1,3) to (1/2, 3) then (1/2, 2).
(-3,3) to (-3/2, 3) then ( -3/2, 2).
