Most of the time "turn away" means to "send away", "refuse to accept", or to "make someone or something change direction away from you.

It does not mean "betray" (背叛).

In some situations it is used to mean "to desert" (遺棄).
for example:
"Don't turn away from God !" 不要離棄神。
"When he continued to take illegal drugs, his friends turned away.當他繼續吸毒,他的朋友離棄他。

It has a sense of betrayal (背叛), but not the same, because "turn away from a friend" only means "ending the friendship", but "betraying a friend" would mean "doing something harmful to the friend".

Turn away = 不准...入內, 走開, 轉過臉, 打發走, 棄用

Betray = 背叛

If you turn away from someone, you move away from them so that you are no longer facing them.

If you turn someone away, you refuse to allow them to enter a place or refuse to help them.
