HERITAGE: (noun) 遺產
the traditional beliefs, values, customs etc of a family, country, or society.
A person’s heritage is broader and more abstract, often referring to the accumulated culture and traditions which belong to a nation and are the birthright of all its citizens.
A country's heritage is all the qualities, traditions, or features of life there that have continued over many years and have been passed on from one generation to another. (usually art, literature, culture and tradition of that country)
In current usage heritage often refers to natural resources which must be carefully preserved for posterity and for humanity as a whole.
The Great Wall of China is part of our national heritage.
ESTATE (noun) 遺產
Someone’s estate is all the money and property that someone owns, especially everything left behind when that person dies. (~ more of a legal term than a common term)
INHERITANCE (noun) 遺產
~ money, property etc that one receives from someone who has died.
- the fact of receiving something when somebody dies
Unlike heritage, inheritance still has the sense of tangible inherited assets and family property attached to it.
Difference between Estate and Inheritance:
Both refer to the property, money and company shares which pass to one’s legal heirs.
The rich man left an estate of ten million dollars to his daughter.
She inherited her father’s estate.
The playboy spent all his inheritance in two years.
When his father died, he returned to Hong Kong to claim his inheritance.
