Ah, thanks for the answers so far. Sperm washing is a technique in which you take sperm that has been collected and place it into a vial and then into a centrifuge. The actual sperm is heavier than the other fluids and so when you finish spinning it around, you'll see a concentration of sperm at the bottom of the vial. You sample the fluid at the top to verify that you collected most of the sperm. If there is still a bit of sperm in the top level of the fluid, you spin it some more. When you are all done you remove the top layer (it looks kinds like dirty water) and then collect the sperm (it sits at the bottom like a dark button). You then take that and place it inside the female. From what I understand, if you do it right, your chances of getting the female pregnant is much greater using this method. Most other kennels will just place all of the fluid into the female but then your chances are at about 60-80 percent. If you do it wrong...you have to wait 6 months. :(
