First, do you know what genre your book will be? If you do, go to a good book store (not the library) and stand in the middle of that genre's area. Read the first paragraph of twenty books. Fifty is better.

You will see hooks of every kind. Dialogue. Fights. Intriguing or contradictory sentences. Murders. Characters speaking to God or Allah. It's a better lesson than I could possibly give here.

Don't start with description of character, setting, or weather. Don't start with what the situation is. Start with something which grabs the reader's attention and won't let go.

My favorite hook of all time: The last camel died at noon.

having plots, scene setting, character background and brief describe.

then based on the plot you have, start the way that you think is suitable. when decide to stop for rest (or next time continuation), review what you have written, fixing all the grammar mistakes, having unity for the whole piece.

example: harry potter series

do have your effort to write it out, you wouldn't know your level unless you've tried..

Wish you all the best~~!

Well, it all depends on what your story is about. For example, if you are writing about someone whose dad died, you could start out with: "I didn't know how to react when my father died."
A hook is what entices the reader to read your story. It should be interesting, and it should relate to the rest of the novel. If your book is written in the first person, maybe have them say/think something that really shows off his/her personality. The most important thing to remember, is that your hook should give the reader a taste of what's to come later in the novel. Your hook can be mysterious (a subtle foreshadowing, perhaps?), comedic (something quirky about the character that makes him/her likable), dramatic (a previous misfortune and/or tragedy), or even the end of the story (for example, you can talk about how your character's little sister died and then the rest of the book is a flashback). These are just a few types of hooks, but as I said before, it really depends on what your novel is about.
