Let a=3^x, b=2^y, so the equations become
3a - 2b = 1 . . . .(i)
4a + 3b = 24 . . .(ii)
3*(i) + 2*(ii), get,
9a - 6b + 8a + 6b = 3 + 48
==> 17a = 51
==> a = 3
Sub into (i), get b = 4
Therefore, x = 1, y = 2
