Present perfect for finish--- have finished
eg:-I've fiinished my food.
Simple past for finish----finished
eg:-The effort finished me.

Verb which shows (a period of time up to and including the present one sec to 24 hrs.,and formed with "have" and the past participle;hence eg:-Have finished.
A thing of the past is something that does not exist any more;eg:-Good manners seem to have become a thing of the past.hence eg;-Finished
