Explain the concept of 'hacking'? Computer networking?

I'm not interested in actually learning procedures in hacking.

since hacking is such a common term, how could you quickly sum up the basic concepts of the way a program or hacker breaks in to 'x' security. It seems like something I just pass off
i.e "That wikileaks guy hacked into a government account"
"Wow"
Most people including me seem to shrug it off as some magical computer procedure..
but how does it basically work?

I have a basic understanding of programming so feel free to use some computer vocab.

Greetings KleptEpistem,

The most common hacking procedures utilize what is known as "fluctuating Identity."
The premise used here is that a secure network is looking at the identities of network connections in order to allow or deny access. The fluctuations are based on rapid manipulation of the IP address. This is usually achieved through witchcraft and other forms of the dark arts.

Hacking is basically exploiting vulnerabilities in an otherwise secure environment (where access is otherwise privileged). It can be as simple as using a key logger to steal an administrator password, or as complex as using a bot to phish for information.

Hacking is subjective. Whom we call hackers are actually very nice people who just do different things. I personally believe that most people paint them in a negative light because they are jealous of their elite "hacking" skillz.
