Two organ pipes, open at one end but closed at the other,
are each 1.09 m long. One is now lengthened by 2.20 cm .

Find the frequency of the beat they produce when playing together
in their fundamental.

Wavelength produced by the pipe before lengthening
= 1.09 x 4 m = 4.36 m
Hence, frequency of fundamental note = 343/4.36 Hz = 78.67 Hz
[Take the speed of sound in air to be 343 m/s]

After lengthening, new wavelength = (1.09 + 0.022) x 4 m = 4.448 m
New frequency = 343/4.448 Hz = 77.11 Hz

Hence, beat frequency produced = (78.67 - 77.11) Hz = 1.56 Hz
