Windows 8 problem with AMD graphics card...?

I bought a windows 7 laptop about a year ago and updated to windows 8 last night...
I went into my AMD catalyst control to see why my computer was running slow. Seems to me when my computer installed windows 8 it put my power xpress back to power saver instead of keeping it on high performance. I try clicking high performance but it just turns my screen black and doesnt come back on for a few hours and nothing changes. It stays on power saver. Yes i've updated all my drivers and yes i've reinstalled it on multiple occasions but nothing seems to be working.
Computer Specs:
Acer Aspire 5253G
Running Windows 8 Pro
AMD Radeon HD 6310 Graphics
AMD E-350 Processor
