I've never seen "The Book of Eli" or "Testament", just "The Road". I don't like it, either. However, it's not because it's frightening realistic, on the contrary, I think it's unrealistic. In an Apocolyptic world, food doesn't just come out of nowhere. Why no one else found it? The father said "people" left food here and hope they can found and eat it. It's riduculous. Why would people left food in Apocolyptic world? They obviously storaged for themselves. And at the end, some good people just came out of nowhere to help the kid. The woman said:"We've been following you." The kid had his father to take care of him. Why would a bunch of people worry about him? If so, why wouldn't they say hello to them? They had more people, they don't need to be afraid of them. And what's that sentence supposed to mean: We've been waiting for your father to die, so we can take care of you? I think the author of original novel was trying to make people believe even in the desperate circumstances. However, his preach was too feeble to be convincing.
