Questions:
A 3-kg metal block is heated to100度 and the put into a 5-kg water bath. The temperature of the water bath rises from 27度 to 31.7度. What are the specific heat capacity and heat capacity of the metal block?

(Specific heat capacity of water=4200)

The answers:
Specific heat cpacity:482
Heat capacity:1450

Specific heat cpacity:mc△T=mc△T
3xC(100-31.7)=5X4200X(31.7-27)
C=482(corr.to 3.sig.fig.)

mc△T=E
5X4200X(31.7-27)=E
E=98700

Heat capacity:c△T=E
C(100-31.7)=98700
C=1450 (corr.to 3.sig.fig.)

Let the specific heat capacity of the metal block be x
mcΔT =mcΔT
(3)(x)(100-31.7)=(5)(4200)(31.7-27)
204.9x=98700
x=482J kg^-1℃^ -1

Applying C=mc , we have
C=3(482)
=1446
=1450J℃^-1 (corr.to 3 sig. fig.)
