The equation is a "wave equation" describing mathematically how a wave varies with distance x and time t. It is a wave travelling from left to righ, i.e. along the +ve x-axis direction.

In the equation, A is the amplitude of the wave
k is the wave number, equals to 1.pi/wavelength
w is the angular frequency of the wave, equals to 2.pi.(frequency)
