The speed of sound in air at 20 degree is 344 m/s . the wavelength
of a sound wave with a frequency of 784Hz , corresponding
to the note G5 on a piano is 0.43878m.



1. How many milliseconds does each vibration take?

2. What is the wavelength of a sound wave one octave higher than the
note in part A?

1. Period = 1/frequency = 1/784 s = 1.276 x 10^-3 s = 1.276 ms

2. New frequency = 784 x 2 Hz = 1568 Hz
Hence, wavelength of sound = 344/1568 m = 0.219 m
