Let x be the no. of dishes of cucumber rolls and y be the no. of dishes of salmon sushi.9x + 12y = 78 ...... (1)
x + y = 7
y = 7-x ......(2)
sub (2) into (1), 9x + 12(7-x) =78
9x + 84 - 12x = 78
3x = 84 - 78
x = 2
from (2), y = 7-x
= 7-2
= 5
Therefore, Polly ordered 2 dishes of cucumber rolls and 5 dishes of salmon sushi.
Then, the number of pieces of sushi polly ordered = 6x + 4y
= 6(2) + 4(5)
= 32
