Set the ground floor as 0, upward as positive and downward as negative.Lift A goes up 5 floors (position of A is 0+5=+5)
Lift B goes down 2 floor then rises up 5 floors (position of B is 0-2+5=+3)
+5 - (+3) = 2
So they are 2 floors apart now.
