A machinist is using a wrench to loosen a nut. The wrench is 25.0cm long,
and he exerts a 17.0- mforce at the end of the handle at 37 degree with the
handle
(the figure (Figure 1) ).

1. What is the maximum torque he could exert with this force?

2.

How should the force mentioned in part (C) be oriented ? (choose an answer)

A. The force is directed into the page.

B. The force is directed out of the page.

C. The force is perpendicular to the wrench.

D. The force is parallel to the wrench.
更新1:

the magnitude of the torque the machinist exerts about the center of the nut is 2.56 N . m Question 1 is wrong. Question 2 is : How should the force mentioned inquestion 1 be oriented ?

更新2:

Question 1 is about the maximum torque, but not the magnitude of the torque the machinist exerts about the center of the nut

更新3:

Q1 is 4.25 N . m

✔ 最佳答案
1) The max. torque is 17 x 0.25 = 4.25 N m

2) When the force is acted perp. to the wrench, the torque will be maximum. (Ans = C)
