Metabolism is a general term for all chemical reaction taking place in our body, which includes anabolism (Making complex moleucles) and catabolism (Breaking down molecules). Therefore, respiration is one of the example of metabolism.

Respiration is a process to break down food substances to release energy. It is thus a catabolism (Breaking down molecules). Some energy produced is lost as heat (~55%). Some energy is used to produce ATP (a chemical) which will be used to support other metabolic activities~
