I feel your pain. I too have an overbite with braces that hinders me from chewing. Unfortunately most of the time it's just something you have to deal with.
Do you have buildups on your back teeth so your teeth don't hit each other?? It's like a hard putty that put on your back teeth to stop your front teeth from hitting but also stops your teeth from meeting expect where the putty was. I have those right nowo and they can be chewed with if your careful. it just takes a while to get used to only having a small space in your mouth to chew with. When I didn't have them my top teeth broke the brackets on the bottom because if my overbite.
As your mouth adjusts to the braces your teeth will come closer until they meet. The reason you can't chew is because your top teeth would knock the braces off your bottom teeth so there has to be space. It sounds bad I know but you will get used to eating like that. Eat lots of potatoes, pasta, rice and soft meats that can be swallowed easily and drink some ensures. You'll find ways to eat as weird as that sounds. It just takes time for your teeth to move and then you'll be able to chew again I promise :)
