Why do people wear top-sider (or boat shoes) without socks?

It is the way boat shoes are to be worn. Yes it is a fashion thing and the reason why they are worn without socks is that it's their style. If you look at some ads in the paper, or a ad for a shoe store will show pictures of people wearing them and they are wearing them without socks. I have several pairs of boat shoes and 2 pairs are the SPerry top-siders and I always wear them without socks.
