To stretch a spring 5.00 cm from its unstretched length, 19.0J of work must be done.

1. What is the force constant of this spring?
k =? N/m

2. What magnitude force is needed to stretch the spring 5.00 cm from its unstretched length?

F= ? N

3. How much work must be done to compress this spring 4.00 cm from its
unstretched length?

W=?J

4. What force is needed to stretch it this distance?

1. Let k be the force constant
hence, (1/2)k(5/100)^2 = 19
k = 15200 N/m

2. Force F = 15200 x (5/100) N = 760 N

3. Work done = (1/2)x 15200 x (4/100)^2 J = 12.16 J

4. Force = 15200 x (4/100) N = 608 J
