Why do people find it so hard to quit smoking? Or quit drinking? Change is tough.

Food is just more than just nutrients that you take in. If that was the case, people would be satisfied by simply swallowing nutrient pills. It is culture, family, emotion, society, and a million other things rolled into one. If you have been eating a certain way for years, it is incredibly difficult to simply change. I work with people on weight loss daily, and it is not simply a matter of eating more than one thing and less of another. It is rarely a knowledge issue, more of a motivation/self-efficacy issue than anything else.

Most have struggled with their weight for years, and part of them may have given up. They have been fed false promises by a food industry and a diet industry, neither of which is committed to health or sustainable weight loss. They go on a diet instead of focusing on permanent lifestyle change. They are victims of cultural stereotypes and cultural norms that promote low self-esteem and negative self-image. They are frequently depressed or deal with mental illness atop other conditions caused by weight (diabetes, high blood pressure, heart disease, pain, etc.).

If it was all they had to focus on, I'm sure it would be easier. But life happens, and it is not always easy to juggle all of those priorities atop managing your weight.

Well they don't have much willpower, and food is SO tasty. But, you kind of sound like a sport jockey hating on people that aren't like you. I do sports and I eat twice as much as any of my friends but i'm actually REALLY healthy. Stop complaining about other people.

Some people can't handle dieting. They want to stop eating, but they loose to their tendencies and urges. Others, it's because of emotional issues. They turn to food when they feel alone, depressed, sad, etc.

I've tried many diets and couldn't make anything work. Since having my first child, I've been carrying around an extra 30 pounds. This diet just made sense and showed me that everything I was doing before was wrong and a waste of my time.

The plan was so refreshing and so simple to follow. I did everything plan said and lost 23 pounds in the first three weeks. I'm now starting the diet again to lose 7 more pounds. This plan has changed my life.

It's not easy to just change your diet. When you eat badly your whole life it's hard to get a taste for healthy food. Your body gets a taste for bad food and a high calorie diet, and after prolonged exposure that's what it thinks it needs.
I'm a personal trainer and nutritionist and although I have never been overweight, I had one of the worst diets. The only reason I wasn't obese is because my parents made me exercise and I had a fast metabolism. I was addicted to soft drink and only ate fried food and chocolate. When I realised what I was doing to myself I tried to change my diet around, and it took so many attempts I can't count. Eventually I had to cut out each bad food and replace it with healthy meals over 2 years. When all you drink is soft drink, water tastes horrible. It took a long time and a lot of willpower. It's the same as giving up drugs or alcohol, it is so hard to stay away from, especially when it's advertised everywhere.

Before you question how hard it is, why don't you try giving up something bad for you yourself? Smoking, Alcohol, or even just chocolate?

Because that "Crap" Tastes GOOD. That's why. Does diet food taste good? No...that's why people chose not to eat it. Simple as that.
