You file as single if you have to file. If your only income will be the one month of social security you won't have made enough to actually file. I would still file with very little income so it's officially on record.

If your only income for 2012 is one month of ss, you don't have to file.

If he died in 2011, you would file as single.

The exception would be if you had a minor child living at home (but at age 60, that isn't likely) or another family member that you can claim as a dependent.

I filed with taxact on a million/17-irs primary a million/19. Orig date replaced into 2/a million then it went to the two/7 club. the day previously right this moment WMR gave a DD date of two/6. I even have not heard of very lots of those with a 2/6 date getting their funds right this moment-hopefully next week!

If social security was your only income, then you do not have to file.

If you have other income as well, then you may have to file.

If you remarried, and you file, then you must file as married.

If you have not remarried and you have a living dependent, then you might be able to file as "qualifying widow" or "head of household".

If you have not remarried and you have no dependents, then the only way you can file is "single".

if the SS is your only income for 2012 since your non taxable income is $9750 you very likely do not need to file

Passed away past July in the tax year 2011 and you did fill out and file the 2011 1040 income tax return using the MFJ status as the surviving spouse on your 2011 1040 income tax return during the 2012 tax filing season for the 2011 tax year.
No qualifying dependent living you in your home for the 2012 tax year RIGHT.
And what about any other RETIREMENT income or other sources of worldwide income that you might have received during the 2012 tax year beside the possible 1 month of SSB amount that you might receive in December 2012 for this purpose.
NOT when and IF you do not have any other amounts of income that you would have been REQUIRED to report on your 2012 1040 income tax return IF you would be required to do this. We would NOT know this because you would be the only that that have all of the needed necessary information to determine when you would be required to fill out and file a 1040 income tax return.
Hope that you find the above enclosed information useful. 10/13/2012
